Someone else created a Facebook page for my business!

Social Media Marketing Tips: Facebook Pages

Did you know your business may have a Facebook Page, even if you or someone from your company didn’t create it? This can happen when someone checks into a place that doesn’t have a Page. Facebook will create that Page to represent the location.

Facebook Pages

Recently one of our new social media marketing clients discovered a duplicate Facebook Page for their business and asked us what to do about it. Here’s our advice:

If you are an admin of your company’s Facebook Page, and find another Page for your business, you can merge it with any duplicate Facebook Pages. The Pages must represent the same thing and have similar names to be eligible for merging. Additionally, if the Facebook Pages have physical locations, make sure the addresses are the same.

To do this:

  1. Make sure you are logged in Facebook as yourself and not as your Page
  2. Go to the Page you want to keep
  3. From the top of your Page, click “Edit Page”
  4. Select “Edit Settings”
  5. Select “Merge Pages”
  6. Click “Merge duplicate Pages”
  7. Fill out the form and click “Send”

Merging Pages combines your likes and check-ins, but all other content such as posts, photos and the username will be permanently deleted from the Page you don’t want to keep. Content on the Page you want to keep will remain unchanged, except for the addition of likes and check-ins that were merged from the other Page.

The Page you don’t want to keep will be removed from Facebook and you will not be able to unmerge it.
